Assignment #6

The person that I decided to do my assignment on was Fergie Jenkins the baseball player. The two sources that I decided to get my information from are "www.fergiejenkinsfoundation.org/site_fergie.htm, archives.cbc.ca". Fergie Jenkins was the first Canadian baseball player to go into the baseball hall of fame (not to mention the first black Canadian to make it). He was born on December 14, 1942 Chatham,Ontario. This all star pitcher had allot of things that he has had to put behind him. For example, just a couple days before he was going to have the highlighting moment of his career, becoming the first Canadian to be put in the baseball hall of fame, his second wife died making that achievement into one of the darkest days of his life.

This man is extremely influential to Canadians and especially African Canadians because this shows that back in the racist times they thought that black people were totally useless, dumb, and had no skills whats so ever in sports. But this proves them wrong so much because not only was this man black and he made it to the professionals, he was also the first Canadian to make it into the hall of fame. This man was amazing and some of the amazing things that he did was pitch in four all star games, he had over 3000 strikeouts and less then 1000 walks, and out of 20 years 7 of them he won the championships. The teams that he played for were Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago cubs, Texas Rangers and the Boston Red Socks. He is a really amazing and inspirational person and a great person to learn about.
